Aquara bets on transformation to save the planet
We offer innovative solutions for the sustainable management of resources and promote environmental health in Aragon
Planet Earth is our only home. We don't have a spare. There is no plan B. Humanity has an obligation to take care of it and safeguard its finite resources. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt transformative changes that allow us to envision a more sustainable future.
World Environment Day, which is celebrated on June 5, has the theme "One Earth" this year and calls for profound changes in policies and in our decisions to live in harmony with nature, promoting a more sustainable lifestyle. clean, ecological and sustainable.
Climate change, caused by human activity, is aggravating the loss of biodiversity and this loss, in turn, is accelerating global warming, since many of the affected ecosystems, such as oceans and forests, are decisive in absorbing greenhouse gas emissions. carbon.
Water, a basic resource for the existence of life, suffers the consequences of all this. Droughts and floods follow one another. The quality of water decreases and, above all, its scarcity is further aggravated. In 2030, it is estimated that 47% of the population will live in areas with water stress, with Spain being one of the most affected areas. In addition, the growth of the world population requires more resources and food, so more and more water will be needed for agriculture, industry and cities. Specifically, it is estimated that the demand for water will increase between 20% and 30% between now and 2050.
Aquara, a reference in the preservation of the environment
Aquara, a company with a three-decade history in the region, offers innovative solutions in the sustainable management of water, natural resources and environmental health, in line with the 2030 Agenda roadmap and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations. Aquara provides daily supply, sanitation and purification services to more than 700,000 Aragonese.
In the fight against climate change and the preservation of the environment, Aquara relies on innovation and digitization, as well as partnerships, to accelerate ecological transformation and thus contribute to better protecting the planet and improving the quality of life of people.
The company is committed to mitigating climate change through the purchase of green energy, the generation of renewable energies and the promotion of sustainable mobility, among other initiatives. "In the last two years we have avoided the emission of more than 1,000 tons of CO2 thanks to the purchase of green energy, as well as our commitment to energy efficiency and energy production in the facilities we manage", highlights José Ignacio Heredero, Aquara manager. This production of renewable energy has been achieved, among other initiatives, with the installation of solar panels in treatment plants such as Graus, in the province of Huesca. In terms of sustainable mobility, it should be noted that "around 50% of our fleet is ECO", says Heredero. In fact, all the vehicles that have been incorporated into the company's mobile fleet since 2016 are hybrid or electric.
Digitization to take care of the planet and be closer to customers
The transformation to move towards a sustainable future that the company is promoting does not only cover the operational field. "This is a global transformation that we have also transferred to the way we relate to our customers," says the manager of Aquara. During the last two years, non-face-to-face service channels have been enabled, such as the customer area of the website, the virtual assistant or Chatbot available on the website itself or the video call service by appointment.
The objective of these improvements is twofold. “On the one hand, minimizing our own carbon footprint, reducing the pollution derived from unnecessary trips to the offices and, on the other, placing people at the center of our activity, so that they are the ones who choose which channel they want to be served through. , whether in virtual format or in our offices”, emphasizes the company manager.
Alliances for environmental awareness
Caring for the planet also means joining efforts to make younger generations aware of the importance of leading lifestyle habits that help preserve water and our natural environment. To this end, Aquara collaborates with educational centers and various local entities in order to multiply the impact of its educational work. A good example is the Aqualogy program, which has already brought the natural and urban cycles of water closer to more than 3,500 Aragonese primary school students while teaching them how to make intelligent use of this essential good for life. For children and adults, other initiatives have also been carried out, such as the recent participation of Aquara in Tree Day organized by the Zaragoza Logistics Platform's Urban Conservation Entity (EUC Plaza), which brought together on May 14 more than 400 people, including platform workers and their families, in a day of planting native tree species on the platform's own land. As it usually does in many of the events it participates in, the company installed a drinking water fountain to promote hydration during the repopulation work and promote the consumption of tap water, a sustainable and quality resource that generates 0 waste.
There are very diverse examples of how the water sector can contribute to the preservation of the environment. There is only one planet Earth. Taking care of its environmental wealth is a collective mission. Every gesture counts.
