Over 160 school children visit the Calatayud drinking water plant to celebrate World Environment Day

Aquara opened the doors of the town’s DWTP with the aim of bringing the water cycle to residents.

Aquara, as the company that manages the Calatayud municipal water service, wanted to organise a proper celebration of World Environment Day, which falls on 5 June each year, since its declaration by the United Nations (UN) in 1974.

This year, the theme was ‘Connecting People to Nature’, so Aquara decided to bring Calatayud residents in contact with water and the treatment it undergoes daily to make it drinkable by opening the doors to the town’s drinking water treatment plant.

Over 160 people took part in the activity, which was part of the Environment Week organised by Calatayud Town Council.

During the morning, pupils from Calatayud schools visited the facilities accompanied by Aquara technicians, who gave step-by-step explanations of all the phases in the drinking water treatment process. Once the visit was over, they gave the pupils gift glasses and corporate leaflets and invited them to try the water from the fountain installed in the outdoor marquee. The first pupils to arrive were from Santa Ana primary school, followed by those from the Francisco de Goya and Baltasar Gracián schools, who had the chance to explain everything they’d learned on the radio. Next it was the turn of pupils from Salvador Minguijón school, and finally, those from the special education class of Augusta Bílbilis school, who were very attentive during the visit and actively participated in giving advice on saving water.

The open-day concluded in the evening with a visit by local residents brought in on a coach provided by Aquara.
